Logel Homes has won multifamily builder of the year awards in Calgary and Alberta in the same year, adding to a nine-year run in which the Calgary-based company has collected 78 industry awards as it expands its condominium and townhouse developments across the city.

The company, which marks 25 years in business, recorded its strongest year in 2025, with 505 home possessions and $200 million in revenue, according to chairman and CEO Tim Logel.

The builder has grown from about 250 annual possessions to a target of 500, a strategy it began pursuing roughly seven years ago. Logel Homes has about 85 to 90 employees and has completed close to 30 projects, with current developments in communities including Seton and Sage Hill.

Logel said the company plans to remain focused on Calgary and Canmore rather than expand into other markets, relying on its approach of building in locations close to shopping, parks, schools and other amenities.

Upcoming projects

Its upcoming projects include an 800-unit condominium development in Seton and the completion of about 750 condominium and townhouse units in Sage Hill. Logel said the company will continue to focus on construction efficiency, quality and customer service as it looks to sustain its growth.

“It's been a notable year for us because we won the BILD Calgary Multifamily Builder of the Year award. Sixth year in a row. Large volume. And then we won some awards at the Canadian awards convention in Quebec City. And recently we won BILD Alberta Multifamily Builder of the Year,” said Logel.

“So, for us to win Calgary and Alberta, it's really not been done before by a multifamily builder. And no other multifamily builder in the last nine years has ever won 78 different awards. We've been on a run.”

Started with a small townhouse project

The business started in 2000 when Logel bought the first piece of land in Canmore. He described it as a very small, modest project of 24 townhomes and then the business moved into Calgary, connecting and working with the developers with whom Logel had built a relationship when he was a VP at Cardel Homes.

“The multifamily business was basically an opportunity for me to achieve a goal, and that was to become an owner of a building company,” he said. “I started in real estate sales, then learned the skills you need to be a builder, and 25 years ago, we started the multifamily business.

“But in 2017, with my two sons and my brother helping me with the business — my son Brady is the president, my son Kevin is the construction manager, and my brother Brad is a longtime area manager for us — we shifted the brand from Cardel Lifestyles to Logel Homes in the spring of 2018.”

Business has come full circle for the company as it’s back in Canmore with a project called Altitude with Three Sisters Mountain Village, beside a 50-acre retail project called Gateway.

Continues to expand, strives to improve

Logel Homes also recently started a general contracting business where it is working with clients to build for them. It is building a project in the Currie neighbourhood in southwest Calgary, close to its office building, for Onward Homes, which is affordable housing. These projects focus on people who are having a hard time getting into Calgary's main rental market.

“One of the key ingredients to the close to 30 projects that we've done is that we purchase multifamily parcels that are walkable to grocery stores, restaurants and coffee shops,” said Logel.

Logel’s projects typically range from 250 units up to its newly launched 800-unit development in the southeast community of Seton.

The builder continually looks to improve, including its construction schedule.

“We're able to build these buildings in the fastest time in Canada," Logel said. "For a 100-unit condominium building, we can start and occupy it in a year. In Canada, the average would be about 28 months.

"We've shaved off a tremendous amount of time from the schedule, but we've maintained this high quality and high level of innovation.”

Logel Homes start at $200,000 for the smallest units and recently it had a sale for $1.3 million in Canmore.

Bullish on Calgary

“We're very optimistic and excited about Calgary. If you were to speak to people across Canada in the residential industry, they would say Calgary is the number one city for a builder to be working in,” added Logel.

“We have a new look from the federal government on getting our resources to the world that wants them. We're very excited about the potential for jobs in Alberta, Calgary and Edmonton, new data centres, new pipelines and LNG plants opening up on the West Coast.

“We're as excited as we ever have been about Calgary. We see great potential for homebuilding in Calgary. We're really glad that about seven years ago, we took on this strategy to double the size of the company, from 250 possessions a year to 500, and it's proven to be very successful.”
